A new study by Amarach Research has shown that Irish internet users are three times more likely to trust an Irish site over social networking & portal sites. According to the independent "The study examined Irish internet users’ attitudes to online content across Irish sites, like Independent.ie, and social sites such as Twitter and Facebook as well as portals like MSN and Yahoo!."
Of course the easiest way to show you are an Irish website is to have a .ie domain name & it seems many businesses are catching on to this as there has been a 12% increase in .ie registrations the first quarter of this year. Usually .ie domains cost about 3 times their .com counterparts and can take a little longer to register but if you're selling to an Irish market then the extra cost is definitely worth it.
